Enhancing Citizen Exchange Activities and Fostering the Future Generation
Yokohama endeavors in various ways to acquaint and familiarize the next generation of young people with Africa, and to promote exchange activities. As of July 2019, 80 elementary and junior high schools in the city were participants in the One School, One Country program, which involves 34 African countries, and through which African ambassadors to Japan visit the schools and speak with the students. The city is also working to extend its education efforts to high school and university students in anticipation of TICAD 7.
TICAD IV and V each brought Yokohama and Africa closer together. In order to bring Yokohama citizens even closer to Africa, the city holds a variety of events and seminars, offering them opportunities to learn about African culture, history, society and lifestyle.
